Hey There
The top reasons that gundog owners who don't pursue Country Sports with them, get in touch with us is for the control of recalling their dog & sorting out pulling on a lead.
RECALL
When dog owners want training for a recall, more often than not it's a recall away from prey, tracking, other dogs bodies of water or areas of interest.. rather than a simple 'come-when-called' between two owners in an empty field that they really want to achieve.
Training a recall to a dog is a process, an accumulation of other skills, experiences and your relationship - your dog's ability develops alongside building a relationship & other training that addresses control over instinctively motivated behaviours, it needs reliable skills in place before you attempt to take on chase, defence and social drives.
It won't happen overnight.
Some dogs are more driven than others. Some dogs drives are intensified in high arousal.
There are plenty of ways that the foundations can be practiced to support your dog's recall..
If you are seeking help with a prey/social recall, we recommend building on these skills progressively with regular sessions but can spend a morning with you in a one-off workshop if you prefer.
You'll see a difference from the very first day ..but recalls develop and the quickest way to train a gundog is to go slowly.

WALKING
Lead Walking / off Lead Walking / off lead walking
When dog owners want training for leash walking, walking without pulling, walking at heel with/without a leash, more often than not it's about a hunting dog (bred to track, chase & flush) pulling to seek out and then track from one scent to another rather than a simple, mechanical 'one step in front of another' task.
That's why some days are good and others are difficult - scent, wind strength and direction, moisture, environmental distractions all play a part.
Training walking skills to a dog bred to track, chase and flush is a process, as your dogs interest in his instincts develop your dog's ability also develops alongside other training that addresses both separating the jobs of being at heel and the job of hunting plus having control over instinctively motivated behaviours, it needs reliable skills in place before you attempt to take on those chase, defence and social drives.
Some dogs are more driven than others. Some dogs drives are intensified in high arousal.
There are plenty of ways that the foundations can be practiced to support your dog's heel work.
If you are seeking help, we recommend building on these skills progressively but can set everything in motion for you to follow up on in an initial session.
& For those that find it frustrating that the dog 'knows how to do it' but doesn't do it unless you are constantly reminding them .. cast your mind back to when you learned to wash-up/ vacuum/ drive at 20mph/
